Sun Jar (Sun)

When the standard lightbulb was invented, naturally, we applauded. But science means progress – and the world is now looking for alternative ways to light up our homes. This is one of the best we’ve found. Inside the Sun Jar is a highly efficient solar cell, a rechargeable battery and three low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in direct sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. When it gets dark or lights are turned off, this energy powers the three natural-coloured LED lamps inside the jar. The frosted glass of the jar then diffuses the light, giving the appearance of trapped sunlight.

    Poor
Lasted just over 2 weeks. Supposedly waterproof, rain got in, corroded connection to LED, doesn’t work. Looks good but shoddy electronics inside.

    Sun Jars
Very stylish, practical and lovely soft glow.
Could not ready by one but I have five on a garden fence, hanging and they light up the fence so softly and they are a feature…

This has a very nice feel to it (proper frosted glass, not plastic, and a satisfyingly chunky lid). The glow is orangey, so it’s no good for reading etc. but would be really nice to just give some general lighting when outside in the evening at the end of a summer’s day, or in a conservatory/garden room, or just on a patio.

I was given a sun jar recently, and it really is absolutely beautiful. There isn’t enough light to read by, but the glow it gives is so very comforting and cosy, and for atmospheric mood lighting, I can’t imagine anything nicer. It makes a wonderful nightlight – very warm and soothing, and because it doesn’t plug into the wall, you don’t need to worry about frying your lampshades or wasting electricity.

Its being a jar very much adds to the romance of it; almost as if you went on a picnic that day, went into the woods with a jar to catch tadpoles or butterflies and caught the sun instead – really sort of magical. Its being solar powered means it will last for an age, so the initial cost is ultimately well worth it.

This is a lovely, lovely little thing, and it’s very muchly recommended.

This is really cool. It would make a great gift for anyone especially the eco-conscious. It looks unusual, is a talking point for guests and it saves on electricity. I might get a few more and make a feature of them. You can even use them outside as they are waterproof.

This is nothing but an overpriced, overhyped jam jar!

    Don’t buy
I would not recommend buying this – the sun in the window is not enough for the jar to recharge for the night and I ended up putting it under my desk lamp to make it work…

SUCK by name and I’m afraid SUCK by nature …
Purchased this for my home on the strength of the marketing genius alone, and that is exactly what the product is … a brilliant idea in a jar.
