Nokia has seen a gradual increase in sales of its Windows Phone-toting handsets, with the release of its latest flagship, the Lumia 1020 already outselling the Lumia 928 in its first few weeks alone. Yet the Finnish firm is now in the process of launching more new devices.
Teaser images have been circulating online about Nokia’s upcoming “Innovation Reinvented” event, which will see the mass unveiling of six new models.
Taking place in Abu Dhabi on 22 October, it would seem that Nokia has planned the event to make a big impact in time for Christmas, as it plans to offer mobile phone contracts to suit all budgets.
According to The Wall Street Journal the launch will see a number of Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8 OS revealed, as well as low-end feature phones running Nokia’s own S40 OS. The line-up is also said to include the firm’s very first tablet boasting Microsoft’s Windows RT software.
Nokia Lumia 2520
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, it is thought that Nokia’s first tablet, previously known under the codename ‘Sirius’, is likely to be called the Nokia Lumia 2520. Taking the form of a 10.1-inch Windows RT device, the Lumia 2520 is likely going to be available in both red and black colour variations.
The tablet is also rumoured to house a 6.7 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and could be powered by a 2.15GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Lumia 2520 may also sport 4G capabilities, a battery which lasts for 10 hours and a case that doubles up as a keyboard.
Nokia Lumia 1520
Another first for the company could be the Nokia Lumia 1520, which could be the Finnish firm’s debut phablet running
Boasting Microsoft’s new GDR3 software update, the Lumia 1520 will feature a 6-inch 1080p display, something which previous software iterations have prohibited. Having this software on board will not only make it the first Windows Phone model to sport Full HD resolution, but it will also be the largest sized display on a device running Microsoft’s software.
Continuing the Nokia’s trademark vibrant hues, the Lumia 1520 is rumoured to be released in red, black, yellow and white variations.
Confirmed to be powered by a quad-core processor, the phablet will also feature a 20 megapixel PureView camera, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
Alongside the six devices, a number of new accessories are set to make their debut as well as potential new app, by the name of Storyteller. Leaked screenshots depict what looks to be a photo-centric application that allows users to organise their captured images into special events.
These events can then be viewed either in a timeline, on a map, or marked as favourites and shared with other users, with each having its own section in the app. The screenshots are believed to be from the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 2520 with the date ‘10/22’ attached, suggesting that we will see the Storyteller app at the Abu Dhabi event.
It could be argued that Nokia should be focussing its attention on its breakout star the Lumia 1020, as the firm’s successes tend to lie in its camera phone capabilities. However, the upcoming emergence of a raft of new models, including its first phablet and tablet devices, show there’s no sign of Nokia slowing down just yet.
